  • Qualified as a doctor in 1976 at Birmingham University.
  • House Officer in surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham and in Medicine at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, Norwich.
  • Senior House Officer in Psychiatry at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Perth, during travels to the Far East and Australia. During this time also spent six months in the theatre world as an actor with the Perth National Theatre.
  • On return to England spent a year in General Practice in Wimbledon.
  • Senior House Officer at Westminster Hospital in Gynaecology.
  • Resident Medical Officer at the Cromwell Hospital 1981/2.
  • Private practice commenced in 1983.
  • Sleep medicine courses Edinburgh March 2013; London March 2015/January 2016.
  • CBT insomnia Michael Perlis course November 2013.
  • RSM courses in sleep medicine 2013-2016; attendance at sleep clinics at St Thomas’ May – June 2013; Guy’s Hospital Oct 2014-July 2015.
  • Honorary Council member and Editor of the Independent Doctors Federation newsletters since its inception in 1988 until 2018. The IDF is a group of private doctors involved in the promotion of independent healthcare and postgraduate education.
  • Originator and associate producer of the Emmy award winning BBC2 documentaries the 'Stephen Fry - the Secret Life of a Manic Depressive' and co-author of the Penguin publication 'You don't have to be Famous to have Manic Depression - the A-Z Guide to Good Mental Health'.
  • In addition to General Practice special interests include psychological medicine such as anxiety, depression, manic depression (bipolar illness) and sleep disorders.
